Tonight is a varsity home football game.  Students, it is very important that you represent Beavercreek city schools and Coy middle school well by being on your best behavior at these games. Be kind, courteous, and respectful to all those in attendance so that everyone can enjoy the game. Students should be seated in the student section if possible. If you are standing and talking with your friends, please be mindful of walkways and people who are trying to get through the crowd. Remember to keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself and use appropriate language. So c’mon on out tonight to cheer on our team!

Having Coy PRIDE means to be a problem solver, be responsible, have integrity, be dependable, and have empathy.

Today’s words of wisdom are about moral courage. Our hearts almost always know the difference between right and wrong. We just need to listen. Sometimes it's hard to listen, especially when our heart is saying "This is wrong" while our mind is telling us "Everyone else is doing it."

Do you remember the root meaning of the word courage? It means "the heart." Next time you are faced with negative peer pressure, have the courage to listen to your heart. Then remember these words from Andrew Jackson, 7th president of the United States:

One person with courage makes a majority.

We all know that the majority rules. So be a leader. Be the one brave enough to say, "Hey. This is wrong." Remember, when you're courageous enough to do what's right, you join the ranks of some of the greatest men and women in history.

Think about that as you go out to inspire, empower and lead with Coy Pride!

Today’s words of wisdom are about responsibility. Responsibility is an interesting word. If you look at it as a compound word, it becomes response-ability or the ability to respond. Responsible people are people who are able to respond to life in an appropriate way . . . to be accountable for their individual choices and actions.

Ask yourself today if you are always blaming others for your choices and actions, or are you wise enough to hold yourself responsible? If you discover that you are always blaming others, take another look.

Think about that as you go out to inspire, empower and lead with Coy Pride!

Today’s words of wisdom are from Ellen Degeneres, who has recently taken some flack on social media for sitting next to Former President George Bush at an NFL game.

In response she said “Here’s the thing: I’m friends with George Bush. In fact I’m friends with a lot of people that don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different and I think we’ve forgotten that we’re all different. But just because I don’t agree with someone on everything doesn’t mean I’m not gonna be friends with them. When I say be kind to one another, I don’t mean only the people that think the same way you do. I mean be kind to everyone. It doesn’t matter."

Today’s words of wisdom states...Making mistakes is a natural part of being a human being. We all do it, whether we are a street cleaner or a world leader, a teacher or a student, a young person or an older person. It's another one of those things we all have in common. We all make mistakes.

Listen to the words of an early U.S. Senator, Hugh White:  When you make a mistake, don't look back at it long...Mistakes are lessons of wisdom.

The fact that you realize you have made a mistake means you've already learned something. You've learned what not to do in the future. Today, take responsibility for the mistakes you've made in the past. Take a moment to think about them and what you learned from them.

Think about that as you go out to inspire, empower and lead with Coy Pride!

Today’s words of wisdom states...Every day we press pause for one minute and listen to the wisdom of others. We do this because it's important to educate our minds as well as our hearts if we are going to become successful human beings.

Now listen to what Ben Franklin has to say:

Without freedom of thought, there can be no such thing as wisdom.

In other words, our freedom of thought allows us to think about our choices. And because we have this freedom to think for ourselves, we can decide what's really important in life; what's right and what's wrong; what's wise and what's foolish; what's responsible and what's not. In a nutshell, our freedom of thought allows us to make wiser choices.

Today, exercise your freedom to think before you choose and you'll choose more wisely.
